What's Up With Wollay? January 28th - February 4th.

Here we go, the first in our new series documenting every question Wollay gets asked by his community during the week. We find em, sort em into categories, translate some, then select what we think the best new news is.


Top questions:
  • First look at the minimum computer requirements are out, thanks to a question from Frosty. He asks:
    "Any idea what the minimum system requirements are, or are they subject to change as the development of the game continues? Thanks."
    Wollay replies: A DirectX 9 compatible GPU and, I would say, 2 GB RAM. Still need to test it.
  • Cube World has its final name! It's unknown to the public yet, but Andrew Tucker's suggestion got the news outta Wollay.
    "You should name Cube World to something like "Journey Cube" I like that name a lot better. Sounds more adventurous."
    Wollay replies: I already have a new name, but it's still secret.
  • Happay Monkay was curious about homes and where they could be built. He tweets:
    "Can you build you're home anywhere on the map or is it locked for certain areas?"
    Wollay replies: Anywhere.
  • Get ya enchanted weapons ready, Sébastien Bègue wants to know if he can kill his friends:
    "Will the game be PVP ?"
    Wollay replies: PvP will be optional.
  • lars strahan asks the question that's been on all our minds, how in depth is the games Spirit Cube mechanic?
    "hey quick question will we be able to create weapons from scratch? or to what degree can we customise"
    Wollay replies: Not from scratch. You can place a limited number of cubes (currently 32) on existing weapons.

Wollay replies: I think the alpha will be ready soon, but I still need to improve a few things.

Generikb asks: i know you don't have a set release date, but any general idea? Like a "QX 201X"?
Wollay replies: I'm targeting Q1 2012.

Robert Sinrud asks:I love all the stuff you've been posting. Do you have any ideas approximately the price the game'll be?
Wollay replies: Sorry, I don't know yet.

Paul-Vincent Roll asks: is Cube World going to run on OSX and Linux or just windows?
Wollay replies: I'm planning to release the Windows version first and then a Mac version.

Andrew Tucker asks: You should name Cube World to something like "Journey Cube" I like that name a lot better. Sounds more adventurous.

Blah asks: Let me guess.... Voxel Quest ?? That would be an awesome name
Wollay replies: Nope, it's a name without voxels or cubes.

Wollay replies: Paid.

Tim Havok asks: do you plan on making a video for the release of the alpha, somewhat like a trailer?
Wollay replies: Yes.

KP asks: is there a way to pre-purchase an account/name for Cube World? Looks awesome.
Wollay replies: No, you can't pre-purchase it yet.

Sébastien Bègue asks: Will the game be PVP ?
Wollay replies: PvP will be optional.

Niklas Schulze asks: zeig uns mal ein Bild vom Hauptmenü (Translated by ASP: Why don't you show us a picture of the main menu?)
Wollay replies: Gibt's noch nicht. (Translated by ASP: There is no main menu, yet)

Riccardo Giorato asks: Another question. Your game is able to became an MMORPG?! If people will able to use your voxeleditor to create everythings.. or?
Wollay replies: Making an MMORPG is too complex for me (but would be cool indeed).

The World:
Sarkynin asks: Will there be a modding API? And Weather?
Wollay replies: Modding is currently not planned but weather.

Adam Stolarski asks: Hey, I was just wondering what the height limit is in your worlds. It seems to be pretty high given some of the rock formations.
Wollay replies: It's basically unlimited.

Happay Monkay replies: Can you build you're home anywhere on the map or is it locked for certain areas?
Wollay replies: Anywhere.

Saphirian asks: Wie siehts denn eigentlich mit Früchten in Jungles aus?^^ Z.B. Bananen oder so^^ (Translated by ASP: What about fruits in jungles?)
Wolley replies: Ja, werde fuer jede Klimazone spezielle Fruechte und Pflanzen machen. ^^ (Translated by ASP: Yes, I will create fruits and plants(vegetables?) for every climate zone)


Items:

Ryan Harding asks: How many times can you upgrade items, can you upgrade your body armor, and can you upgrade something with a stronger material?
Wollay replies: Currently the upgrade limit is 10 times. Yes, body armor is upgradable. I plan to add special upgrade materials.

Josh Jordan asks: The glow effect looks awesome on it. Is the glow customisable at all?
Wollay replies: Just by placing different spirit stones.

Marcus Åberg asks: Question, Will you add helmets?
Wollay replies: Yes probably. I have to see how good it works/looks with races that have strange heads like lizardmen.

Ryan Harding asks: Oh, and can you upgrade armor with spirit cubes for a passive bonus like defense? Or is it limited to weapons and shields only?
Wollay replies: Yes, you can also upgrade armor and get passive stats like health, strength, fire resistance, depending on the used spirits.

Adam Montilla asks: can u place the "spirit stones" anywhere on the weapon
Wollay replies: Yes.

Ryan Harding asks: Awesome! Do the spirits give you bonuses like regular cubes as well or is it just the spirit's effect? And does 1 cube = 1 upgrade?
Wollay replies: Just the spirit's effect but it's more powerful than a regular cube. 1 cube = 1 upgrade.

Ryan Harding asks: Ok, that's what I thought. One last question: can you remove upgrade cubes if you're unhappy with what you have?
Wollay replies: Yes you can re-arrange the cubes without destroying them. But you can't detach a cube and put it on another weapon.

Chase porter asks: Since you can already put spirit cubes on weapons and such, how about the ability to put custom made crests on weapons?
Wollay replies: I'd like to keep it simple for now, but maybe in future.

Marcus Åberg asks: Can you stack the spirits? so if i put lets say 10 unholy, will i have shitloads of lifesteal then?
Wollay replies: yes

Kaikhorus asks: I'm guessing that there are weapon and armour types other than iron, but they're being hidden from us right now. Correct?
Wollay replies: Not hidden, I still need to implement them.

Tim Havok asks: I love the new combat system. Did you change the numbers of upgrades you can put on your armor/weapons? More customization?
Wollay replies: Yeah I'm still experimenting with the max number. Currently it's 32 so you can add more details.

Some One asks: Will you be able to design armors and weapons from scratch using the spirit cubes?
Wollay replies: No, just upgrade existing ones.

June asks: Can we upgrade and add spirit stones to bows? Like, instead of using iron/stone blocks we use wood blocks or something like that...
Wollay replies: Yeah, you can upgrade wood bows with wood blocks and spirit blocks.

Adam Stolarski asks: I was also wondering how it is that we obtain materials like Iron and Wood. Is this where you implemented breaking down old equips?
Wollay replies: Yes, there are NPCs which can disenchant weapons and armor to small cubes.

DoubleCaster asks: What about making enemies drop cube instead of weapons, then you could fully customize armors and wepons. (Blueprints to restrict)
Wollay replies: I think it's more fun if enemies sometimes drop rare weapons/armor than just cubes all the time.

Robert davis asks: Then your weapon would either be good, evil, or neutral. And when they max out, they have a special power feat.
Wollay replies: That's a cool idea. Currently I'm busy with implementing other things, but it would be a nice feature for the future.

Wollay replies: There are already dragons in the game.


Characters:

Ian Hey asks: The character you were playing as was the girl version of the humans. Is there gonna be female versions of the Orc,undead?
Wollay replies: Yes, I'll try to make female versions for all races.

Laythen Gale asks: Will you add anything related to Magic like an MP bar, spells, wands, magicbooks and potions?
Wollay replies: Yes!

Kaikhorus asks: Will races have an affect on gameplay? e.g. Orcs have a slight boost to melee damage but less mana while undead are the opposite
Wollay replies: Yes, races will have different base attributes (health, strength, agility, attack speed, intelligence, resistances).

Chris asks: I've seen the lizard man creature pop up now and then. Any plans on making that playable, too?
Wolay replies: Yeah, I'll make them playable.

Noah Crispo asks: Meaning the player can choose a race/class when making a new character?
Wollay replies: Yes!

Arron Stone asks: Does this mean that you've started character customization?
Wollay replies: Not yet but I will start soon.

danieL asks: so you have different races, we saw human cities are there cities for every faction or are the human cities friendly to everyone?
Wollay replies: I'm thinking about adding factions which are hostile against each other. E.g. humans, elves and dwarves will be in one faction.

Jimmy Liao asks: Ist das Leben so gewollt? 5100 ist schon naja.. Für Level 1 etwas.. hart? (Translated by ASP: Is the the health intended? 5100 is, well...for level 1...quite much)
Wollay replies: Habe dem Orc aus Style-Gruenden eine High-Level-Ruestung mit 5000 HP angezogen. (Translated by ASP: I've given the Orc a high-level armor with 5000 HP for style reasons )

Nathan May asks: Have you said what perks leveling up will give? I hope it is more than just stat increases. Great work btw
Wollay replies: I plan to implement a skill system, maybe something like talent trees.

Guillaume Carrera asks: Hey, what is the "max" level ?
Wollay replies: There is none.

Adam Meadows suggests: Think about a race that has wings and could glide and have a slightly higher jump (possibly double jump). :3
Wollay replies: Nice idea. Maybe I'll give frogmen a higher jump.

Wollay replies: The system in Cube World will be without slots. You'll be able to place cubes with special attributes anywhere on your weapon.

Thomás Petry Schell asks: can i ask you a question? will different types of mobs attack each other in random events??? ex: lizardmen vs undeads
Wollay asks: Yeah, I'll add that to the game.

Riccardo Giorato asks: will you add flying mounts??Players able to fight and catch a wild dragon to use it as a mount. It's a good idea?Only high lvls!
Wollay replies: I think flying mounts are not good for the gameplay. It's cooler when you have to climp up mountains and swim through rivers etc.

Moose asks: What about a handglider? Yea it's call to climb up, but gliding down is awesome \o/
Wollay replies: Yeah I think I'll add something like that.

It's an unofficial forum made by a few guys who fell in love with the game at first sight. So, no, Wollay hasn't had anything to do with this forum (yet).

I highly doubt it. Most companies don't want to have that option that very few use, they lose money for it. Not many people use telephone payment anymore. I especially doubt it because this is an Indie game.
