So we've all seen Minecraft come and go, also setting the bar for what we can expect to see out of these sandbox games in terms of server communities. The moment we received all those modifications, creativity started to flourish and the game quickly turned from the Alpha state that it was in to a borderline massively online multiplayer game full of energetic and creative people. Don't even get me started on the game modes.
Anyway, I ran Minecraft servers for about two years before I got completely and utterly bored with the pathetic development on behalf of both Bukkit and Mojang. The official mod API still has not been released for it, so I'm fed up with the game. Mojang had their chance but let Minecraft slide when they turned development into a fairy tale. Blizzard can get away with this, not them.
All ranting aside, when do you think we're going to see the next Bukkit for Cube World? Currently the servers are just a console open and a VPN - nothing more. I can't wait to see the plugins, modifications and online play that can come out of this and I'm looking forward to modding it up myself when it comes around. I might even get back into the server hosting areas if we see it any time soon and development actually continues and nothing stays client-side until the game is milked and on its way to the decline aisle.
If there's anyone thinking about doing this, I can code in Java and C++ although I haven't done much on the networking side of things - send me a PM anyway. If there's any time to make your dash into being the pioneers of the online play area within a video game that is about to take off, it's now. Either way - discussion goes here.
What kind of server plugins do you think we see? What would make for some interesting game modes? Have you got an idea for the kind of server that you'd like to make when the API gets released? Do you think it will be compatible with client-side mods as well?
