I plan to add team clashes but it is still early in development to give concrete details." I'm guessing by that he means clan battles which would be great to see. Also "
I'm currently debugging and smooth out the game to a playable alpha or beta.
I'm bad at estimating a release date because there is always something that takes longer than expected, so I can not say how long it will take!" So we could see an Alpha very soon!

Game Sphere:First, could you introduce yourself and the game for our readers of Game Sphere?
Wollay:; Hey, I am Wollay and I am currently developing a PC game with the project name of: Cube World. It's a 3D action RPG game (voxel-based 3D: Volumetric pixels, these are 3D versions of pixels used to represent the 3D space of an object, etc.) That happens in a vast world based on randomly generated cubes.
-
GS : So, for how long have you been developing the game?
W : I've been working on it for about 10 months, with a few breaks in between.
GS : What inspired you to develop these graphics and gameplay?
W :Minecraft is the game that inspired me to make a Random world made of blocks. That allows a developer to work alone on making a complex 3D world without the support of a designer and programmer team.I grew up with Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) games, like Secret of Mana, Zelda, Landstalker, Wonderboy, and these were and still are my main source of inspiration. Games like Diablo and World of Warcraft were also very inspiring when it comes to the RPG elements and the item system in Cube World. I love Monster hunter 3 and it's dynamic combat system, and I try to develop similar gameplay for my own game.
-
Gs : Many people say that Cube World in a Ripoff of Minecraft. There are, In fact, a few similarities, but the game doesn't look like a sandbox. Could you tell our readers what Cube World really is?
W : Cube World is much more centered around combat, quests and exploring. Building yor own house is also possible, but it isn't a goal of the game. The goal of Cube World is to explore the world, defeat monsters, finding weapons, valuable items and armor, and grow stronger. The game has a much faster pace and it's viewed in Third person. The game looks like a mashup of a Jump'n'Run 3D and an action RPG game.
GS :Are you planning to add a crafting system? If so, What would Crafting look like?
W :Yes, I am planning to add a system to create Weapons and armor. There will be NPC's (Non-playable characters) like blacksmiths that allow you to create items if you bring them the required materials. For example, you can have some dragon scales, after defeating a dragon, and the blacksmith will make you some armor with them.
-
GS : Is it fair to compare Cube World's RPG aspect with the one of Terraria?
W : Of course, I think that the goal of Terraria, to most players, is to make powerful weapons and equipment, in order to be able to explore new regions of the world and fight more and more powerful Bosses and monsters, just like Cube World.
Image:(The entrance of a Crypt!)
GS :Have you already defined a possible storyline for Cube World? And will it be possible to create your own character in the beggining of the game?
W : There's no story yet, but I'm working on it. And yes, it will be possible to create your own avatar, by picking a race (Human, elf, orc, dwarf, Lizardman, Undead) the hairstyle, skin color, and so on.
-
Gs : Solo, Co-Op, or Multiplayer? Maybe both? Can you describe each of the game modes you are planning for the final product?
W : I am planning to add Singleplayer mode, Multiplayer, and PvP co-op mode.I am trying to give the players the chance to do everything in multiplayer, together. For the PvP battles, I will be trying to add team batlles, although it is still too soon in development to give concrete details.
Image: (Dragons will be present in Cube World.)
Gs : Your game is very sought after, even without you having announced a release date yet! Can you tell us at what point you are at development, and how many time will there be before you release the game?
W : Right now I am debugging the game to release a playable alpha or beta. i am very bad at estimating, because it always takes longer than expected, so I can't say how much time this will take!
-
GS :Do you have an idea of the price of Cube World? Tom Francis, the developer of Gunpoint, made a poll in his devblog asking people if they were interested in his game, and how much would they be willing to pay for it. That worked very well!
W :I haven't decided on a price yet. I think I will wait until I finish the game. The poll you mentioned is a very good idea, and maybe I will do the same!
-
Gs : If you want to say a few words to the readers of Game Sphere, or just add any more information on the game that I forgot to ask you, do it here!
W : Thank you for your interest in my game, and I will do my best to make a good game and as fast as possible.
You can follow the development of the game in the developer's Twitter or on his blog.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that is it. Some words might be mistranslated, but I did my best to retain the essential information...
My fingers hurt now....
EDIT: fixed a few mkistakes I did in some words
EDIT2: fixed more mistakes in more words. that's it, no more extensive typing while sick.

At least we know he's alive! I have a question: was the interview made the same day it was posted? You're very welcome Zailiner. I hope you liked it, even if Wollay hasn't really revealed any "new" informations.

You seemed like in need of information, so yeah, I signed up this morningWait....did you just sign up so you could tell us you made the Interview?
Not at all ! Actually I contacted him in March to ask for an interview. He said it was okay, so I sent him the questions, a few days after (between March 5th and 15th)At least we know he's alive! I have a question: was the interview made the same day it was posted?
Then he sent me the answers during April (14th) and since I was very busy with my final exams I couldn't translate the interview and publish it right away.

If his first estimation was Q1 2012, it can't take long.Cool that you register just because of that

Or the game comes out 21st December and ends the world somehow.
Not that I believe in 2012 Apocalypse.

MauvaisVitrier, might I ask, when did he answer these?
That said, it was still a good read. =) Thanks for putting it together, GameSphere!
[and Renato for the translation, though I do understand just enough French to read most of it]

though I do understand just enough French to read most of it
OH thank GOD! then you can tell me if the translation was (or wasn't) accurate, because I am not very sure, since I used google Translate to translate French into my language, and then used my sparse knowledge of French to apply the correct grammar changes and to correct the mistranslated words and sentences.

He answered me on April the 10th. As I said, I wasn't able to work on the translation at the time because of my final exams.Just because it was posted on the 27th, that doesn't mean he answered these recently.
MauvaisVitrier, might I ask, when did he answer these?
If you'd like, I can give you the original interview. But I've done it in English and the translation given by Renatoboy is quite accurate.
I've checked, all the informations are well translated
Double post:
ps: I apologize for my bad English
Hi, here are the questions. I hope you'll like them. Do not hesitate to explain fully some things. Details matter as well as any kind of information.
Good luck ! I hope my English is not too bad.
1. Could you introduce yourself and your game to our readers ?
Hi, I'm Wollay and I'm developing a PC game with the working title "Cube World". It's a voxel-based 3D action RPG featuring a huge randomly generated world made of cubes.
2. So you’re working on Cube World alone, how long have you been developing it ?
I've been developing the game for 10 months now, with a few breaks in between.
3. What inspired you regarding both graphics and gameplay mecanics ?
Minecraft inspired me to create a randomly generated world made of blocks. It allows a single developer to create complex 3D worlds without a team of designers and programmers. I grew up with Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis games like Secret of Mana, Zelda, Landstalker, Wonderboy, and these games are my main inspiration for the look and feel of the game. Games like Diablo and World of Warcraft are a big inspiration for Cube World's RPG elements and item system. I love Monster Hunter Tri and it's action-based combat system and I'm trying to get a similar gameplay for Cube World.
4. Many people say that Cube World is a Minecraft-like. There are indeed a few similarities, yet it doesn’t looks like a sandbox. Could you explain our readers what Cube World is more precisely (what type of game, how it will work, etc)?
Cube World is more focused on combat, quests, and exploration. Building your own house is also possible but it's not the focus of the game. The focus of the game is to explore the world, defeat monsters, find rare weapons, armor and items and to become stronger. Gameplay is rather fast-paced and is from third-person view. It feels like a mix of 3D Jump'n'Run and Action RPG.
5. Have you planned adding a crafting system ? If so what would we able to create ?
Yes, I'm planning to add a crafting system for armor and weapons. There will be NPCs (armor and weapon smiths) which want you to bring them certain materials and they will craft items for you. E.g. you can get dragon scales by killing dragons and certain armor smiths can craft a dragon armor out of them.
6. Would it be fair to compare Cube World to the RPG aspect of Terraria (and without the sandbox) ?
Sure, I think Terraria is also about getting more and more powerful weapons and equipment in order to access more dangerous areas of the world and to defeat more powerful monsters and bosses.
7. What is the background story of Cube World ? Is there a story or a framework ? Will it be possible to create our own character at the beginning ?
There is no background story yet, but it's in development. Yes, you can create your own character by choosing a race like human, elf, orc, dwarf, lizardman undead and select different hair styles, colors and faces.
8. Solo, cooperation or multiplayer (PvP) ? Maybe both ? Could you describe each of the game modes you’ve planned for the final release ?
I'm planning to add solo, multiplayer coop and PvP. I'm trying to allow players to do everything cooperatively in multiplayer mode. For PvP I'm planning to add team based-matches but it's still too early in development to give concrete details.
9. Your game is very much expected, even if there is no release date yet. Could you tell us at which point you are in the development process and how long do you think it will take before releasing it (weeks/months/years) ?
I'm currently fixing and polishing the game for a playable alpha or beta version. I'm bad at estimating a release date because there are always things that take a little longer, so I can't tell you how long it will take.
10. Have you any idea about how much you want to sell Cube World ? Gunpoint’s developper Tom Francis organised a poll on his dev blog in order to know if people were interested in buying his game and how much they thought it was worth. It worked pretty well.
I haven't decided yet about the price. I think I will wait until the game is done. The poll you mentioned is a nice idea and maybe I'll do that too.
11. If you'd like to say a few words to Game Sphere readers, or add any informations that I forgot to ask you, you can do it here. Thank you for your interest in my game and I'll do my best to make it good and to release it as soon as possible.
