I wonder what items would look like when dropped.

Just no armor / weapon / high value item drops. If you ever played Realm of the Mad God, you would see all the fighting over each other's items when they died.
For a second I thought this thread was going to be your opinion on the actual death penalty.

Xp is just like money, you can always just grind more for more XP...i really hope you dont lose xp, idc for money you can always just sell stuff. hopefully just money or a hardcore character will completely die like a rogue rpg.

I think a small amount of XP lose is good, maybe a little money, too. Nothing big, like the sword you've been spending months to collect materials for and build.
Indeed, maybe like lose a quarter of the amout of money you have with you, if pvp stays like this i wont even bother trying it if it has no rewards what so ever.

Minecraft is the only game which you lose XP when you die, as far as I know, but the XP can be used to purchase enchantments for your weapons. In Minecraft, XP is essentially a currency. In Cube World, XP is actually used to level up your character, which gives you greater hitpoints and makes your character stronger directly. In Minecraft, it's reasonable for you to lose your XP because it's just a currency, like coins. However, in Cube World I think it would be quite ridiculous, because your character would become physically weaker when you die. I wouldn't mind a death system similar to RuneScape, when you die you keep your 3 most valuable items and can pick up the rest if you come back in time.

I meant a small amount of XP.. perhaps, double the amount of XP that the enemy gets for killing you.
Which may or may not be determined by your level and your opponents level.

Well I know a shitton of games in wich you lose xp when you die :/ More then I know games where you keep itMinecraft is the only game which you lose XP when you die, as far as I know, but the XP can be used to purchase enchantments for your weapons. Besides that, xp isn't like a currency in mc at all :/ You don't use it to trade. You use it to level your armor up. Isn't that the same as leveling your hp up (well close to the same)
And it is basicly a good system in my opinion as it is your own fault for not being good enough and not training hard enough. The game get's harder the further you walk away so it only seems fair that you need to slowly progress and not just walk as far as you can on lvl 1. That would just be stupid.
My preference for death penalty would be a code that takes away a increasing amount with each level of xp (It should be so that you can't go a level back).
And possibly half or a quarter of your money. No items, as that is just silly :/

I've seen this the local servers of Ragnarok.
You would drop 1/3 of your items, no matter what they were. Those cards you spent hours to get, the sword you spent hours to smith, etc etc. It was incredibly cruel because you had to grind for those items all over again.
Losing XP would be alright, and some money as well. However, we haven't seen a bank system anywhere in the screenshots so I'm going to assume you don't drop money on death, just possibly XP.

There is trading, and Bronze/Silver/Gold coins, which is currency. Check the latest screenshots.

Vice Versa sounds better. For PvP It should be like, when you die the person who killed you gets all your money and some XP.
Yes, you could grind for more EXP. Yes, you could grind for more Gold, but ALL of it in one battle?
No. Just, no.
Instead;
EXP/Gold based on opponent's level, double for the winner, a quarter for the loser. Not a loss of EXP for the loser.
Some people like gambling, so, how about a betting system? I would explain it, but I'm sure everyone knows how betting works.

My opinion? Well, I don't think any kind of corpse running is that popular in kind of open worldy/dynamically generated games. So I doubt items dropping will be part of it, which I like and think makes sense as this is an RPG and your items really make up a large part of your character's ability on a permanent level. Er, I guess there could be a full corpse run where your items are on your corpse, not touchable by anyone else (Oh, old Everquest), but not your items/money dropping on the ground. The simple some exp, money, and/or durability loss, and possibly loosing your place in such a vast world, I think, would fit this game well though. I do agree with the not being able to drop a level thing, that just feels like total garbage if you're a "numbers=yay @ me look what level I got to self! This number only goes up and I get tougher." person and I don't think this game is supposed to feel that 'hardcore'.For a second I thought this thread was going to be your opinion on the actual death penalty.
Hmm, thinking about it more maybe forcing us to corpse run would discourage death quite a bit in an open-world game...but people aren't about repetitive time-sinks that literally don't do anything towards progress for you in modern gaming. Loosing/Dying can be fun if you are out exploring some way-too-high level things with friends! Popping up at town, having a laugh about it, and just already having your losses cut for you without having to corpse run would encourage this more-so - unless you're into the dangerous corpse recovery runs and probably dying much more/leap-frogging. I just keep arguing with myself now and am not saying anything definitive.
Oh yeah, wasn't this a tweet, where in context it sounded like that was just currently how the game was set up and that he didn't implement anything yet? I'm fuzzy, refresh me please?Last Wollay said, we lose nothing on death.

Gotcha, didn't even think of that because of the context I presented the thought in originally. But no, wouldn't post something like that in this section of the forums if I wanted to discuss it.I was referring to the death penalty in real life.

We probably won't drop our items at all. Considering what kind of game that is, that kind of penalty would REALLY hurt it's rankings among indie games.I agree with Muddy.

Unless wollay decides to surprise us by making it RealmOfTheMadGod style and our characters delete themselves after death. We probably won't drop our items at all. Considering what kind of game that is, that kind of penalty would REALLY hurt it's rankings among indie games.

Maybe that's why he always starts at level one...oh god.Unless wollay decides to surprise us by making it RealmOfTheMadGod style and our characters delete themselves after death.
(I know that's not actually why.)
